About me…
I was born and bred in Malta; a tiny spec of an island in the middle of the Mediterranean. I graduated in European Politics and Diplomatic Studies and for many years my published literary history consisted of the two compulsory leather-bound dissertations as part of my studies.
…how I started…
While I have always enjoyed writing, for far too long my creative streaks were limited to my two brothers’ English homework until a sudden idea hit me a few years back and I started writing. It took much denial before I bravely admitted to myself that I was in fact writing a novel. Since then I have written a Women’s Fiction novel called Paths which is currently doing the Publishers’ rounds and a crime fiction entitled Blood Orange which is at editing stage.
P.S. Brother David has a post of his own, brother Bernard has one coming his way, I hope!
…how to find my writing
My writing can be found under the names A.C. Bell for Fantasy, Horror and Sci-Fi fiction and Sandra Bell for Women’s Fiction. Unfortunately, I am still very much of a newbie, therefore you will not find much of my writing out there apart from this blog 😦 I have however published three stories 🙂 and you can read them by clicking on the Published tag.
My blogchallenge…
I have challenged myself to post on this website once a day, be it a rant – of which I have many – a response to a Challenge – which comes in handy when I’m feeling lazy – a fictional weave – of which I have quite a few – or just something which I feel like sharing. I have given myself Sunday off though. Hey, if the one up there can take leave on the seventh day, why can’t I?

Growing up on Malta must have been a blast. When did you become conscious of its unique place in the world?

Oh my goodness, this is an interesting question. I guess it was after I started travelling, going on holidays, business meetings and taking every opportunity to explore other corners, other cultures, around the world that I realised that Malta is pretty special.
Mind you, it is small – tiny in fact – and there are many, many things that I would improve had I been Prime Mistress. But whenever I am abroad, even while I am marveling at mountains, vast green planes and all the things that are missing in this minuscule island, I always feel that thug that draws me back home. It is the people in the end I think; friendly and welcoming – sometimes so frustratingly close-minded that it is cute. There is something about the climate, too warm, that reflects on the inhabitants, makes them passionate about little things that might seem insignificant to others but this results in a general communal aura that I only ever felt here.
It is also the history, thousands of years of different rulers left their mark on this sun-scorched rock in a way that every inch of paving tile you thread, every wall you touch, every building you see has its own particular history and as a writer, I cannot help but wonder who dwelt there in the years passed; how their lives might have played out. And in this, the communal aura is stretched over time and while standing in the middle of the capital city, for example, you feel at one even with people long dead, eons past.
That is why, I think, Malta is unique. And now I realised that I have given a pretty long answer and is probably much more than you’ve bargained for Doug!

I am very embarrassed to say that I have never yet read anything of his! I have a copy of The Adventures of Tom Sawyer and it’s been sitting on my shelf for a decade!

Don’t be embarrassed! You could find so many books that the professor hasn’t read, and then you could laugh him to scorn about it!!
